Ba’al survived because he understood that flexibility could be more valuable than claims of absolute divinity. Introduced as the System Lord who captured and repeatedly tortured Jack O’Neill, he later emerged as Anubis’s most capable subordinate, rival, and eventual heir to much of the collapsing Goa’uld order. This episode traces Ba’al’s use of advanced technology, political bargaining, hidden bases, and cloned bodies to remain active after enemies believed they had killed him. Unlike many System Lords, he could cooperate temporarily with SG-1 when Anubis or the Replicators threatened his own survival, then return immediately to manipulation and conquest.
