The Protected Planets Treaty
The Protected Planets Treaty restrained Goa’uld expansion by placing selected human worlds under Asgard protection. Rather than occupying those planets, the Asgard relied on the credible threat of overwhelming retaliation if a System Lord violated the agreement. At its core, the treaty was a form of interstellar deterrence negotiated between enemies that recognized limits neither wished to test casually. Cimmeria showed how Asgard safeguards could deny Goa’uld access, while Earth’s admission required direct negotiations with Cronus, Nirrti, and Yu after Apophis’s failed invasion. The arrangement protected Earth from open System Lord attack, but it did not end covert operations, internal sabotage, or threats from rulers such as Anubis who could challenge Asgard enforcement. Nor did the treaty free the countless worlds left outside its coverage. Its effectiveness depended on reputation, surveillance, and the assumption that the Asgard retained enough military strength to punish violations. It was protection through deterrence, not permanent peace. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
