The Sangraal: Merlin’s Weapon Against Ascended Beings
The Sangraal was Merlin’s attempt to build a weapon capable of striking ascended beings on their own plane of existence. After returning to human form, Merlin used Ancient knowledge to design a device that would release a specific form of energy through a Stargate and neutralize ascended life within the connected galaxy. This episode follows the clues, trials, and hidden laboratories that protected his work, including Morgan le Fay’s decision to stop him while secretly preserving the possibility that the weapon might later be needed. SG-1 eventually found Merlin in stasis, but his failing body forced him to transfer essential knowledge into Daniel Jackson. The completed Sangraal offered the first direct answer to the Ori themselves rather than their Priors or fleets. Its power also raised a grave concern: it did not judge guilt or allegiance among ascended beings.
