Korolev: Russia’s Battlecruiser and the Disaster at P3Y-229
Korolev was Russia’s first BC-304 and a symbol of the uneasy international partnership surrounding Earth’s interstellar fleet. The ship entered service during the Ori crisis and was rushed to P3Y-229, where four Ori motherships emerged through the newly completed Supergate. This episode reconstructs the battle from Korolev’s perspective: a modern Earth battlecruiser entering combat beside Odyssey and allied vessels against ships whose shields and weapons rendered existing tactics almost useless. Commanded by Colonel Chekov, Korolev launched F-302s and fought at close range, but an Ori energy beam penetrated its defenses and destroyed the vessel. Only a small number of personnel survived through separate escapes, including Cameron Mitchell in a fighter and Daniel Jackson after transport to an Ori ship. Korolev’s loss demonstrated that the 304 class, though formidable against many Goa’uld and Wraith threats, was not technologically dominant. International expansion had created a fleet, but P3Y-229 revealed how quickly that fleet could be broken. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
