The Siege of Atlantis, Part II: Mines, Drones, and Desperation
As the Wraith closed on Atlantis, the expedition converted every available system into part of a layered defense. Orbital mines, railguns, Puddle Jumpers, remaining drones, and naquadah-enhanced nuclear weapons were prepared to damage hive ships and break incoming assaults. This episode examines the second phase of the siege, when planning gave way to attrition and the city’s shield became the final barrier between the Wraith and the population inside. Darts attacked from above, warriors reached the city, and casualties mounted while power reserves fell. Reinforcements led by Colonel Dillon Everett arrived through the Stargate from Earth, bringing Marines and equipment but no immediate solution to the enemy’s orbital superiority. Even successful defensive actions consumed weapons the expedition could not replace. The objective narrowed from defeating the Wraith to surviving long enough for help to arrive. Atlantis remained standing because soldiers, scientists, and pilots used incompatible systems as one improvised defense network under constant pressure.
