The War in Ida: Asgard Against the Machine Swarm

The war in the Ida galaxy placed the Asgard against an enemy that turned technological superiority into a vulnerability. Replicators invaded ships, consumed control systems, copied materials, and expanded faster than Asgard forces could destroy them. Thor sought human assistance despite commanding one of the most advanced fleets known to Stargate Command because Earth’s projectile weapons, improvised tactics, and willingness to use apparently crude solutions operated outside the assumptions the machines had adapted to defeat. SG-1 fought infestations aboard both Earth and Asgard vessels, while Samantha Carter helped develop traps intended to concentrate and destroy machine forces. The conflict repeatedly showed that no single victory was permanent. A few surviving blocks could restart the swarm, and every captured Asgard innovation made later generations more dangerous. The Ida war also weakened the Asgard’s ability to enforce peace in the Milky Way. Protecting other civilizations became harder while their own worlds and fleets were being consumed.
